Developed for Lowe’s Portfolio through Checkolite International, 2009.
A six-light chandelier developed as tropical and plantation-inspired influences were appearing across residential furnishings and decorative lighting. The design translated that language into a less literal, more transitional fixture for Lowe’s Portfolio collection, drawing on woven textures, organic forms, and traditional scrollwork without relying on an overt tropical motif.
The composition is organized around a tall central body with an open diamond-lattice surface that suggests woven construction and loosely recalls the elongated form of a pineapple. Similar textured elements are repeated at the lower body and beneath each light, creating continuity through the fixture without turning the reference into a recognizable symbol. Six sweeping arms extend outward in broad curves, balancing the strong vertical center with a softer, more open silhouette. Warm flared glass shades complete the composition, providing a simple counterpoint to the more articulated metalwork.
Finished in dark bronze, the chandelier sits between traditional decorative lighting and the tropical-colonial influences of the period. By abstracting those references rather than reproducing them literally, the design creates a distinctive residential fixture with a broader transitional character.
