Developed for Costco through Activa Leisure
A deep seating collection designed for Activa Leisure's FY20 outdoor program for Costco, exploring a nautical-themed direction for the channel's premium outdoor deep seating tier. The collection draws inspiration from coastal sailing vocabulary — the refined tube railings of sailing yachts, the architectural lightness of marine forms — translated into a deep seating program suited to residential outdoor settings.
The frames are built from round-extrusion metal tubing, kept slender to evoke yacht railing geometry rather than the heavier rectangular profiles common in deep seating at this scale. A thick woven body wraps the seating shell so the cushioned interior reads as gently floating above the ground, with the visual weight of the structure carried by the woven volume rather than the frame. Extended armrests run beyond the seat's footprint, adding lounging comfort and a more generous, residential posture. The accompanying table pairs a wood-look porcelain tile top with a honeycomb substructure — engineered to deliver the one-piece live edge wood look that had moved to the front of furniture design heading into 2020, in a weather-resistant outdoor-rated assembly rather than a real wood slab.
The Lansing Deep Seating Collection translates marine design vocabulary into outdoor seating — slender extrusion frames and a substantial woven body holding nautical reference in residential proportion.
