Developed for the iHome brand (iHL24) through Checkolite International
A desktop speaker lamp with built-in iPod dock and integrated organizer, designed for Checkolite’s iHome licensed product line and released in 2008. This was the second series in the iHome lamp program I led for Checkolite, expanding the line into a more functionally integrated product while maintaining coherence with the Apple ecosystem the lamp was designed to live alongside.
The lamp base reads as a single continuous curved surface, with the dock, organizer trays, pen and pencil holders, and speaker integrated as cutouts within that form — reflecting the Apple-inspired design language of the era. To reduce development and tooling costs, the design was paired with an existing production lamp shade, allowing the new base architecture to integrate into Checkolite’s manufacturing pipeline efficiently while maintaining a cohesive visual identity. Colorways matched the iPod nano palette of the time — silver, blue, pink, and black — allowing each lamp to pair directly with its owner’s device. Glossy surface finishes echoed the material vocabulary used across the iPod nano and shuffle lines, while rotary volume and power controls preserved a tactile user experience.
The iHL24 released through multiple retail channels including Lowe’s, Toys “R” Us, and Pottery Barn Teen, and remains available across resale marketplaces seventeen years after release.
