Developed for Lowe's Allen + Roth through Grand Leisure, released Spring 2023.
An outdoor collection developed for the Lowe's Allen + Roth Spring 2023 program, anchored by a 7-piece dining set and 4-piece conversation set. The configuration and price-tier targets responded to gaps in the existing Lowe's assortment where the program's seating and dining lineup needed new pieces. The design direction I brought was to translate the cane-back, black-frame dining language that had been a defining furniture trend across specialty retailers since the late 2010s — a direction that hadn't yet been brought cleanly to outdoor durability at the Lowe's channel price point.
The dining chair was the anchor. The back was designed deliberately as a structural design element: a gently curved profile for comfort, combined with a handwoven cane-pattern wicker back doing the visual work. The combination meant the chair could ship without a back cushion — a decision that held the cost target while keeping the back visually impactful. The frame is powder-coated steel in black, finished single-step. The dining table balances the chairs' lightness with intentional mass: an embossed steel faux-wood top in an X-base trestle silhouette, with frame tubes scaled larger than the category standard for presence proportional to a six-person dining configuration. The conversation set carries the same vocabulary across rocker chairs, a loveseat, and a coordinating coffee table.
Caledonia released SP23 in-store and online as a 7-piece dining set and 4-piece conversation set, with the collection extending the following season into a 3-piece rocking bistro set.
